I think it might be because often times deals in principal were made and announced or leaked prior to the end of the 5 day period, and they wanted to eliminate that from happening, as it undermined the spirit of the rule being changed in the first place.

You just have to know that the very first game played is going to go to a 4th OT period, and the game will run 5 hours and throw this whole well-coordinated schedule into the blender.
It reminds me of my beer-league days when I would show up at 11 for an 11:30 game on a Sunday night....see there was only a minute left in the game.....then learn there is still an entire game to be played before we were up....good times!

Have they said anything about if the 2pm game goes into triple OT? |

Takes the drama and negativity off the player. Fans knew too much about the process. In the past it was pure speculation.
Plus it takes the negativity off the teams that chose not to go after certain players.

I believe the GM's send more players adrift as UFA's than they sign. the negotiating period made it more difficult to get a draft pick for negotiating rights. therefore, a better chance to get something for nothing. |

I think it’s great that NHL is back, if it’s safe for everyone involved.
Are all games played in two rinks? Three NHL games a day, everyday, for how many days? I feel like ice conditions are going to be a major issue very quickly 🤷🏻♂️ |

Edmonton has always had the best ice in the NHL. I don't know how it'll hold up in August. But we'll see. They'll benefit from fans not coming into the building before the games thus raising the temperature. |

Since no fans will be in the crowd, they have the ability to utilize each main arena's nearby practice facility as required in situations like this to ensure no games are delayed because of an extended game due to multiple overtimes. |

Do loud buildings, refs subconsciously swallowing the whistle occasionally because of fan displeasure, fans booing, getting impatient and shouting SHOOT etc sway outcomes of game even a little?
If it does then one could argue we will get a purer* product this time around. Things that are part of the rules of the game - last change, last stick down at mid-ice dot, will be preserved as part of home ice. Extraneous psychological things will be weeded out.
Without the fans to feed off, I think there will be less showboating, less taunting, and I suspect, possibly even less fighting.
If the virus allows, we might get a surreally intense hockey experience this summer.
*purer =/ better, the latter being subjective. |

It does not matter. you will be able to watch the completion of that game or you will be switch over to the start of the next game. I think you will have a choice if it is your teams game. |

For those of us who actually work for a living this isn't exciting. Lol. Now if i sat in my basement and spewed out a bunch of bs for a living... Then this is very exciting. I wont be watching most of these unless its primetime. Im sure the flyers will play at 12 or 2 every game. - flyeredup85
luckily for your flyers, they wont last more than a round |

Sounds like you're bitter that Eklund is far more successful than you.

There will be no multiple OT in the round robin/Play in round. They will use regular season ot rules. 5mins than the shootout, |

Looks like the first NHL player stepped up and is out of up coming games. How many will also follow for health reasons.

Almost none would be my honest guess. Less than 5 total across all teams.
